Some big news this week regarding my crowdfunded and self-published works, BEEF BROS and Stoned Master, in addition to glowing reviews of last week’s Free Planet #3. Let’s get into it…
I’ve joined the PULP
The most important part up front: You can now order BEEF BROS BEHIND BARS and Stoned Master #1 from the creator-owned distributor co-op Power Pulp! With wholesale discounts available for comic shop retailers.
Power Pulp is a new type of distributor, one owned and operated by the comics creators themselves. What’s more, the talent involved is phenomenal, including my friends Matt King, Chris Anderson, James and John Coats, and Pat Kain as well as a bunch of incredible creators with whom I desperately want to become friends. For more information, I encourage you to check out this recent write-up and interview on the Beat.
Most importantly though – even more important than ordering books for yourself, which you should absolutely do – tell your local comic shop about Power Pulp and its wholesale discounts. All of these books are creator-owned and self-published and, in light of distribution woes currently affecting the industry, could very much use the exposure that comes with comic shop placement. If you dig my work, you’re going to flip for the murderer’s row of talent assembled by the Pulp!
Free Planet #3 reviews
Two awesome reviews for last week’s epic Free Planet #3, including the above video review by the reliably excellent Michael Fitzgerald Troy. It’s a particularly great issue for a video review, as it features our heavily anticipated space dogfight, which absolutely must be read in print, due to readers having to barrel roll with us to read it properly.
However, if you are, like me, more textually inclined, Nerd Initiative has you covered with not just one but two glowing reviews of Free Planet #3. It’s a particularly fun read, as you get to read to distinct takes – from Ken and Rich – on each element of the book.
Questions and clarifications
Free Planet #3 also features the series’ first letters page, which is unlike any you’ve ever seen in comics. (and features Substack luminaries
, , , and , among others). As much as I like reading praise, we wanted to do something different, something that contributes to the richness of the book by allowing readers to participate in its worldbuilding. Enter our renowned historian and expert in Lutherian history.Dr. Aldous Foyroushi, who also writes all of our historical captions and backmatter essays, has graciously blessed us with these ersatz office hours. In each and every issue moving forward, the good doctor will answer your thoughtful, engaged questions about the world of Free Planet in a letters page that could only be called “Questions and Clarifications with Dr. Aldous Foyroushi.”
As dense and rich as Free Planet is, I know there are things you’re wondering about; submit your questions to DrAldousFoyroushi@AtlantisStillSunk.com for inclusion in an upcoming issue!
Finally…
It wouldn’t be an Atlantis Still Sunk newsletter without a shameless Aubrey plug: Go buy Free Planet #1-3 single issues from your local comic shop! Even if you’re waiting for the trade, I encourage you to snag the single issues for three crucial reasons:
Free Planet’s spreads were designed for periodicals that can lay flat
The Questions and Clarifications letters pages will not be in the trade
Most crucially: Single issue sales make it possible or us to continue production, ensuring you end up with a full bookshelf of Free Planet
Of course, buying a book twice is a difficult proposition, so I offer up sage advice I first saw suggested by Kieron Gillen: Buy the single issues, then flip them after the fact to fund your trade purchase. With the collector interest in Free Planet, you might even end up making some dough from the deal!'
And, as ever, if you don’t have a local comic shop, my friends at Collector’s Paradise are there for you with bundles of Free Planet'‘s first arc, shipping out following the release of #6 in October.
And that’s it for me! After you’ve perused Power Pulp’s offerings, let me know which titles you picked up; everything looks so good I’m worried about releasing the floodgates and ordering one of everything.
Aubrey
Fantastic news all around & thank you for making it possible to still get a copy of Stoned Master! I didn’t have the chance before, and although it seems the quantities are limited, I always appreciate having a chance to get something I missed out on before
Keep the hype train rolling!
